It has been confirmed by Microsoft that Windows 10 is going to be the last version of Windows operating system. This news is bound to send shockwaves in the entire tech-industry, as more and more upgraded versions of Apple operating systems, iOS, as well as Android, have already flooded the smartphone market. These operating systems are also big competitors of Windows in laptops and personal computers with Apple’s MacBook and Google’s Chromebook. Though, different versions of Windows OS are presently the most popular platforms for computers around the world, it has lost out to iOS and Android in the smartphone arena.

Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 late in the year or certainly by the end of 2015. A developer evangelist and Microsoft employee, Jerry Nixon, has confirmed this news. He also said that as Windows 10 will be the last version of the series, the entire team of developers and programmers is still working on it. Nixon was talking at the ongoing conference which has been named Ignite. The conference is being held by the company in Chicago. He further spoke about the idea of Windows as a service.

windows 10Nixon also clarified that though Windows 10 will be the last operating system from Windows, the company will continue providing improvements and updates for all the existing software on the platform. He also revealed that the groundwork for the last operating system of Windows was being done at the same time when they were working on Windows 8.1 OS. He shared an example of the Start menu, saying that the built-in apps and the menu itself would be updated separately.

It has also been reported that another spokesperson from Microsoft has confirmed this information while talking to media. The spokesperson has said that the recent comments at the Ignite conference regarding Windows 10 reflect the way Windows will be delivered as a service and not just an operating system in the near future. They would continue to work on updates, and new innovations relentlessly. The main focus of the company would be towards its business customers and, consumers.

It was also mentioned by the spokesperson from Microsoft that they were not considering the future branding needs at this point of time. However, all customers can rest assured that the team at Microsoft will constantly be vigilant to make sure that Windows 10 remains updated. It will be the same platform powering a host of devices like laptops, PC’s, smartphones, Xbox, Surface Hub, and HoloLens. The future of innovations on Windows looks amazing as per the spokesperson.

A version of Windows 10 which is currently being tested is expected to be launched for smartphones, HoloLens, Xbox One, and tablets. The different versions of the operating system are expected to be launched for PCs, laptops, and smartphones. The PC version will probably be the first one to be released. It will be very interesting to see how Windows continues to rule as the most popular OS platform in the world without any new launches. Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows operating system as confirmed by Microsoft.
