Tyrese Goes Public With Love for Janelle Monáe

TyreseFollowing a recent Steve Wonder concert, R&B crooner Tyrese Gibson made his love for Janelle Monáe public by way of social media. Elated for the opportunity to sit with the songstress during Stevie’s 65th birthday celebration, Tyrese wrote his feelings for Janelle Monáe on Facebook and Instagram. In about 200 words, the love hopeful told Monáe that he was in his grown man feelings and did not expect they would ever change.

Tyrese, who is about seven years the Electric Lady singer’s senior, is a Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter. The former fashion model and MTV VJ is also an author, actor and television producer. He is best known for his role in The Fast and Furious franchise as Roman Pearce and in Baby Boy as Jody. Prior to acting, the Sweet Lady singer released several albums, by which he quickly became a household name.

Unlike many musical sensations, Tyrese’s career began after he was discovered singing on a bus. He later appeared in an advertisement for Coca Cola singing, Always Coca-Cola, which propelled him into the world of fame. The Nobody Else singer went on to develop a successful modeling career before returning to his first love, singing.

Tyrese not only loves singing and acting, but has recently made his love for Janelle Monáe public. The Tight Rope singer is a R&B and psychedelic soul singer, songwriter, record producer and composer. She was raised in Kansas City, and often compares herself to Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Her mother was a cleaner and her father a bin man; according to Monáe:

Statistics would say that I am not supposed to be where I am today … Neither one of my parents had Tyresecollege degrees, but they really pushed and designed me to be better than them.

Although Tyrese is not being shy about his undying love for Janelle Monáe, many have often questioned her sexuality. The tuxedo “uniform” the singer has become known for pays homage to the working community, but many have attributed it to her sexuality and called her a lesbian. A few years ago, when questioned, the What is Love singer said she only dates androids. Monáe added:

I speak about androids because I think the android represents the new ‘other’. You can compare it to being a lesbian, a gay man or a black woman. What I want is for people who feel oppressed or feel like the ‘other’ to connect with the music and to feel like, ‘She represents who I am’.

The songstress said this is the reason she refuses to make any public declaration about relationships or her sexuality. When she is ready to have a family and make that declaration public she will. Until then, as a young African-American woman, what is most important to Monáe is to focus on her message, music, voice and performance.

Tyrese is hoping he can be the one Monáe goes public with. In his open message to the Yoga singer he expressed how much of a sucker he for a woman who is strong, naturally beautiful, authentic, smart, God-fearing and self-sufficient. Tyrese asked the Q.U.E.E.N. singer what he could do to help Monáe fulfill her goals and life intentions; he often wondered how he could protect her.

Mr. Gibson expressed his love to Janelle Monáe, expecting some backlash from others who felt more deserving of his heart. He vowed not to delete the message because it is his truth and will not change. As of yet, there has been no public response or acknowledgement of the expression of love from Monáe. All eyes, especially the media, will be watching to see what happens next.
