‘Game of Thrones’ Made the World Stand Still on Sunday [Recap & Review]

Game Of Thrones

Game of Thrones

The world stood still on Sunday to watch Game of Thrones, which emerged from the mind of George R.R. Martin as a seven-volume, best-selling book series called A Song of Ice and Fire. With this, Game of Thrones, the television program, was born, and went on to captivate the imagination of the world for the past four years on the HBO network at 9 p.m. EST on Sundays. The show tells the story of nine families in a medieval European setting; all who are trying to gain control of the lands around them. However, on Sunday, even though fans of the show should be well accustomed to its thrilling and eerie suspense, the episode The Dance of Dragons delivered a stunning blow.

Upon giving a riveting speech, in which he said to his daughter, Shireen, “Because you did not belong across the world with the bloody stone-men, you are the princess Shireen of the House Baratheon and you are my daughter,” character Stannis Baratheon has made himself one of the most hated persons on the show. In the episode Sunday, Stannis made the gut-wrenching decision to have his daughter sacrificed for the sake of Melisandre. so that she could gain the magic she needs to break through the snow and ice. All to gain the iron throne. What made it worse was when his daughter repeated the speech to him while preceding to tell them of a book she was reading, The Dance of Dragons. Even if Game of Thrones is known for its ruthlessness, this is a new low of gruesome deaths for them, which had viewers from around the world standing still to watch.

Game Of Thrones

After viewers were rejoicing the poisoning of King Joffrey Baratheon, few thought that another character as unlikeable would come about, especially for one who was so respected just a few episodes ago. In spite of all the drama, it could possibly get worse, as hinted by actor Kit Harington, who plays the character Jon Snow. Harington has given a huge clue as to what happens to him in the show or, at least, what is thought to be happening in the future. For persons who have read the A Song of Ice and Fire books, it is known that Jon Snow’s brother will repeatedly stab him at some point. Still, it is not clear whether he lives or dies.

Be that as it may, Harington, in an interview with The Huffington Post, said that his character and Tyrion are never safe throughout their ordeals. He added that everyone in the series is never truly safe, and offers a  hint as to what may be the demise of Jon Snow. Further into the interview, Harington revealed that he would be disappearing off the face of earth after publicity for Testament of Youth, his upcoming movie, adding that it would be really nice, however, if he is called to start filming Thrones. It is unknown if he will return for the sixth season. With only two more episodes in Season 5, the anticipation as to what happens next will be at its peak, leaving viewers only to guess at what will happen during the grand finale of Game of Thrones.  Hopefully, not only will it make the world stand still on that final Sunday, but the rest of the solar system could also join the party.
