The Hunger Games

In a world of 12 known districts, the Capital changed the lives of many with The Hunger Games 74th annual survival competition when the film’s first installment premiered March 2012. Random youth are sent to survive in a computer altering environment while trying to be the last one standing. Katniss Everdeen steps forward to save her sister from a deathly fate while sealing her own; a decision that all leads to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 killing the Capital for the sake of districts everywhere this coming November.

Fans of the box office booming film are exploding on the internet with anticipation of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 release November 20, 2015. Original fans of the books say Lionsgate Entertainment has done more than decent job with creating the movie’s adaptation. However, some fans, though pleased with the cinematic outcome, prefer more details of the book be left in. Nikki Lastra, an avid reader and fan of the books said, “They’re decent for what they are, but that’s how I feel about every book to movie. They’re good movies for what they’re allowed to be in the time given for a movie. Obviously there are things I wish they would have left in the movies that are paramount in the books. However, still good movies. Not terrible.”

Critics of the film, however, differ drastically saying that the films (as well as the books) misses its own damage on the psyche of today’s youth. Those same critics have long since asked why a production studio, such as Lionsgate, would make a film about a competitive trial that pits young children against each other. The premise of the books and the film being, purely, to remind the masses of a struggle that has long since passed. However disturbing as the overall story of youth dying from gruesome and primal means may be, fans are still overly excited about the final installment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, and its journey to kill the Capital.

Movie Pilot says for those who are not familiar with what Suzanne Collins has placed in her literature, there are going to be some devastating surprises as moviegoers see the film. Katniss Everdeen, Gale, Peeta, Haymitch and the new-found President Coin of District 13 are bound to leave fans of the film’s franchise “clutching their pearls” with what is to come. Deceits beyond what one could imagine, deaths that no one ever saw coming or wanted, and heroic actions that are sure to leave film watchers more than breathless.

Aside from the fact that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 marks the end of the franchise, as there are no more books to adapt to the silver screen, some fans are hoping that Lionsgate takes creative license to create a spinoff set of films. With the ending of the last installment set to reveal a decision that could very well be a sound foundational premise for a new era of The Hunger Games, fans of the movie version give their support. However, die-hard fans of the books protest saying to take such a license of creativity would tarnish the very essence of what Collins has contributed to the world of book-to-film adaptations. Whether a spinoff is in the stars or not The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is still set to kill the Capital this coming Fall.
