After an alleged affair with a married member of his church, Pastor Chris Hill leaves his wife and resigns from the Potter’s House Church of Denver. Members of the congregation learned of the allegations of infidelity via an angry text message from Hill’s wife. The pastor, protégé of megachurch preacher Bishop T. D. Jakes, launched his church in the spring of 2010. As one of the largest churches in Colorado, the congregation has since grown to include over 7,000 members After a long month battling the exposure of the alleged love affair, Hill resigned and left his wife.
Hill’s church is an extension of The Potter’s House of Dallas where “The Bishop” serves as senior pastor. Jakes is a well-known and influential leader, filmmaker, talk show host and author with a huge following and has received numerous honors. As a beacon in the Denver community, Hill’s church has been called one of the most racially diverse and fastest growing churches in the country. His formal resignation comes after Jakes removed him from the 2017 International Pastors & Leadership Conference. According to previous promotions of the conference, the disgraced pastor was slated to teach a workshop on vision. A portion of the statement released by Hill’s church reads:
The Potter’s House Church of Denver announces today that Senior Pastor Chris Hill has tendered a letter of resignation effective immediately. Further, after several weeks of ministry, counseling, and contemplation, Pastor Chris and his wife Joy Hill will be seeking a formal separation.
While they are both saddened on many accounts they feel it is the best decision for both their personal healing and the successful continuation and growth of the Denver Church body. All of us here at the Potter’s House Denver are praying for Pastor Hill and his wife as they embark upon this very personal journey. The Church leadership will respect their privacy at this time as any further decisions about the state of their marriage will be a private one between them and their families.
Joy, Hill’s wife of more than 20 years, claims she has proof that her husband is having an affair with their young goddaughter, Shirnae. The church and family have requested privacy during this time of transition. Unfortunately, along with fame comes a public platform that negates the option of a private process. Hill is well known and loved throughout the Christian community.
Reportedly, this is not the first time Hill has cheated with a woman he pastored. Chris and Joy went through a similar situation eight years ago. However, this time the couple has decided against the restoration of their tumultuous marriage. In the mass text message sent to congregants, Mrs. Hill said her husband admitted to the affair after learning that she had hired a private investigator who followed him for six weeks. Initially willing to work on their marriage, Joy said she can no longer live like this since he refused to stop the affair.
Infidelity creates a painful and extremely difficult and complex situation, which involves all the emotions. For the Christian, it can stretch faith almost to the breaking point. However, it is important to remember that the adulterer or adulteress is not outside the reach of God’s grace.
Last month, the Colorado pastor announced he would step down for a month after the allegations became public. He has since submitted a letter of resignation, effective immediately. After weeks of counseling, following the accusation of an extramarital affair with a married church employee, Hill resigns and leaves his wife of 20 years.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
Was touched by Chris Hill service in South Africa yesterday.Felt as if he was preaching to me.He touched my heart and gave me hope that my enemies will be dealt with.I Pray his reputation is not tarnished by this because no one is perfect, the Devil attacks those most who worship God with all their heart. We must Pray for restoration.Thank you Dr Chris you have made me feel stronger today to face everything the e enemy is throwing my way.Amen Brother we hope you visit South Africa again, We Love you!!!
Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
I pray that after he has humbled himself and repented ,he would wait upon the Lord for sometime until God releases him to go back to the ministry>
But I think she shouldn’t have sent that bulk SMS to church members…..
I agree with you
I loved this couple”s ministry. Sadden by the news, but this is whats happening…
You’re blaming the wife? Wow…..
This is a painful news on media. Oh! If Chris new how he is loved and followed by many the world over. His charisma has been quite challenging and provoking to many of us and we long to follow in his steps. But charisma without character reveals a very poor image of God. I think the mistake came when his wife did not expose him the first time. Sin covered always goes viral. If she did this thing then it would have been checked a long time ago. But helas! God is always true: He that covereth his sin shall not prosper, but he who confesses (exposes) and forsakes his sin shall obtain mercy.
