Flight Attendant Dies on Hawaiian Airlines and Plane Was Diverted

On the night of Jan. 24, 2019, a Hawaiian Airlines flight scheduled to land in New York was diverted to San Francisco after a flight attendant apparently had a heart attack on board and died.

According to the online tracker, Hawaiian Airlines flight 50 took off at 4:20 p.m. ET, and the path of the plane was changed to land in California.

Sources say that when the attendant had a heart attack, crew members performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for hours, but could not revive the attendant, who had more than 30 years of service.

One passenger tweeted on Twitter saying the attendants made an overhead announcement asking if there were any doctors on the plane who could help.

Another passenger spoke with Hawaii News Now and told them there were doctors and paramedics on board and they tried to help the attendant. She continued by saying it was very confusing to the passengers on the plane, as they did not know what had happened.  Adding the passengers were not told what was happening, only that there was a medical emergency. When the plane landed in San Francisco, they sat on the runway for almost two hours as they waited for the coroner to arrive.

The 300 passengers on the plane were booked on another flight. Many booking the flights themselves because they had to get to New York.  Hawaiian Airlines said they would reimburse the passenger’s tickets.
