Stapleton

Joe Stapleton, a traffic reporter for WBZ who also had roles in movies such as “Mystic River” and “Spotlight” was found dead on Tuesday. A cause of death was not announced. He was 55-years-old. His death was unexpected.

Stapleton’s death was announced by WBZ where he worked as a traffic reporter. He was well known in Massachusetts due to his over 25 years in television and local radio.  His last job was at WBZ as their traffic reporter.

Stapleton loved movies and had a few minor roles on TV shows and in movies. He was in a few movies which were Oscar contenders.

Stapleton played a police officer in “Spotlight” which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2016.  He was in the song “Manchester bu the Sea” as a fire marshall.  He also appeared in “R.I.P.D”, “The Invention of Lying” and “Mystic River.”

Stapleton appeared for a few years as “Major Dick” on WAAF’s a “Hill-Man Morning Show.”

Stapleton’s co-workers and peers shared their thoughts and condolences on Twitter.

WBZ’s Operation Director Bill Flaherty stated that whenever he walked in a room he was friendly and had a smile.

WBZ reporter Michael Hook stated that people may not have realized it, but you saw Joe in a move.  He was reporting traffic for a long time. It’s a huge loss.

WBZ offered condolences to his family and stated that their thoughts and prayers were with them.

Producer for the “Hill-Man Morning Show” Mike Hsu at WAAF state he was a kind and funny gentleman.
