Veteran Bollywood actor Kader Kahn died on December 31, 2018, in a Canadian Hospital after having an extended illness He was 81 years old.

According to CNN affiliate station News 18, it was reported that Kahn suffered from Progressive Supranuclear Palsey which is a degenerative brain disease which is extremely rare.

The actor’s son Sarfaraz stated that his father died on December 31, 2018, at 6 pm in Canada after suffering from a long illness. His father was hospitalized for 17 weeks. Sarfaraz also verified that his father received last rights at the hospital. The entire family who resides in Canada were at his bedside at the time of death. On Friday, Khan developed breathing problems and was placed on a BiPap ventilator.

The actor was born on December 11, 1938, in Kabul, Afghanistan. as a child, he moved to Mumbai with his family.

Prior to making his film debut, Khan helped write and produce many smash Bollywood hits such as ‘Coolie,’ ‘Amar Akbar Anthony,’ ‘Dharam Veer,’ ‘Lawaaris,’ ‘Sharaabi,’ and ‘Muqadaar Ka Sikandar.’

In 1973, Khan made his acting debut in ‘Daag’ which starred Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. He acting career spanned over 300 movies.

Condolences poured in after news of his death broke.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi tweeted on Tuesday that he brightened up the movie screen with his fantastic acting and made it brighter with his humor.

Amitabh Bachchan said that the news of Khan’s death was depressing and sad news. He was a magnificent stage artist and was in some of his most successful movies.

Anupam Kher said that being on the movie set with the actor was a learning experience and joy.

Khan is survived by his wife Azra and sons Shahnawaz and Sarfaraz.
