Roger Stone, a longtime adviser to Trump, has been arrested on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 after being indicted by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. Stone was indicted on seven accounts by a grand jury in Washington D.C. on charges about the 2016 election attack, according to MSNBC.
CNN reports a little after 6 a.m. ET police officers who were armed raided Stone’s home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
According to the Justice Department indictment, Stone was charged with one count of witness tampering, one count of obstruction of justice and five counts of making false statements. He is scheduled to appear at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida courthouse on Friday at 11 a.m. ET.
The indictment does not accuse him of collaborating with the Russians to help interfere with the 2016 elections. The indictment surrounds details regarding Stone’s conversations about emails which were stolen by the Democrats and were later released by Wikileaks.
The indictment alleges Stone was in contact regularly with Wikileaks, referred as “Organization 1” in the indictment, and the Donald Trump campaign. The indictment goes on to say, after July 22, 2016, and the emails were released by Organization 1, a senior official from the Trump Campaign was ordered to contact Stone about more releases of emails, and any other information Organization may have to damage the Clinton Campaign.
Stone then told the Trump Campaign about any future damaging materials which may be released by Organization 1.
The Stone indictment is the first to charge an American citizen regarding the release of Hillary Clinton’s emails during the attack by Russians in the 2016 election.
