PrevinAndré Previn’s manager Linda Petrikova told the New York Times that the legendary four-time Oscar-winning conductor and composer died in New York on Feb. 28, 2019. Previn was 89 years old.

Mia Farrow, Previn’s third wife, and the mother of three of the composer’s children tweeted on Twitter:

Previn’s musical career spanned more than six decades, receiving four Academy Awards and ten Grammy Awards. His Academy Awards went for his musical scores for “Porgy and Bess,” “My Fair Lady,” “Gigi,” and “Irma la Douce.”

While Previn was the director of the London Symphony Orchestra, in the 1970s and 1980’s he also conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Previn has scored dozens of films since 1948 with “Tenth Avenue Angel.” In 1949 he scored “The Sun Comes Up,” which was a movie about Lassie. In the 50s he contributed music to “Gigi,” “Bad Day At Black Rock,” and “Kismet.” In the 60’s “Elmer Gantry,” “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” “Two For The Seesaw,” “Irma la Douce,” and “My Fair Lady.”

In 2010, the composer was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.

Previn is survived by two daughters Alicia and Claudia, whose mother was his first wife, Betty Bennett; Lovely Previn, his daughter with Dory Langan his second wife; and with his third wife Mia Farrow, his children Fletcher, Sascha, and Matthew. Previn also adopted Farrow’s children Summer Song and Soon-Yi, who in 1997 married Woody Allen. Previn also had a daughter named Dory who died in 2012.
