TMZ is reporting that Kjell Rasten, entertainer Charo’s husband of 40 years committed suicide on Feb. 18, 2019. He was 79 years old.
According to multiple sources, Rasten was in the home he shared with Charo in Beverly Hills, he shot himself at 2 p.m. PT. Charo, 68-year-old, was at home.
According to TMZ, police received a 911 call, and they quickly arrived at the scene with paramedics. Rasten was brought to a local hospital, and he was pronounced dead.
The Blast reported a police source informed them Rasten used a semi-automatic pistol to shoot himself. 911 received a call, and the person on the line initially told them they thought Rasten fell and hit his head. The source continued to say, Charo, covered with blood ran from her house screaming and was inconsolable. The singer and actress rode with her husband in the ambulance to the hospital.
The publication was told Rasten did not leave behind a suicide note and there were no signs anything was wrong.
This was Charo’s second marriage, the two married in 1978. Previously, Charo married from 1966-1978 Xavier Cugat. Later on, in interviews, she said their marriage was a business arrangement.
Rasten not only acted as Charo’s manager, but he also had a successful career in the 70s and 80s as a film producer. In 1981 the couple had their only child Shel Rasten.
