‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners has reported on Feb. 11, 2019, that Ser Pounce, former King Tommen’s cat has died.
Ser Pounce was introduced in season four of the show, by interrupting the flirtation between Margaery Tyrell and Tommen. The cat immediately became a fan favorite and online media sensation.
At the end of season six of ‘Game of Thrones’, Tommen committed suicide after the death of Margaery, and Cersei Lannister, his murderous mother, made herself queen. Ser Pounce disappeared, not to be seen again.
Showrunner David Benioff told EW in an interview that Cersei hated Ser Pounce’s name so much she did not want him to live. He said the execution of the beloved cat was so horrible and gruesome it could not be aired.
Showrunner David Weiss reported that the extended Game of Thrones box set will show the death of Ser Pounce. He added there will be an entire episode devoted to the death of the cat.
As with other deceased Game of Thrones characters, Ser Pounce did not die in the books written by George R.R. Martin. In the books, he was one of three kittens given as a gift by Margaery to Tommen.
