KellyOn Feb. 22, 2019, R. Kelly was indicted by the Cook County State’s Attorney office in Chicago on ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported court records show the charges stem from a video Michael Avenatti discovered showing Kelly having sexual relations with a girl who is 14-years old.

Avenatti tweeted on Twitter when the indictment was handed down “It’s over.” The lawyer was investigating Kelly for ten months on behalf of several clients.

Earlier in Feb., Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg told CNN he was not notified of a grand jury being convened. When asked about the tape from Avenatti, he said he was unaware of the tape or any new information about their client.

CNN viewed the videotape in question, and it appears Grammy winner is performing sexual acts who refers to her body parts during the filming as being 14 years old. The video lasts for 42 minutes and 45 seconds and is explicit and clear.

When the R&B singer was 35 years old, he was arrested for child pornography in 2002. Six years later, he was acquitted. The recent video mirrors the acts Kelly was accused of.

Kelly has been accused for over two decades of manipulation, abuse, and inappropriate encounters with young women and underage girls.

The singer has been sued by multiple women who alleged he had sex with them when they were under the legal age. Kelly has always denied the allegations, and except for the trial which ended in an acquittal, the cases never went to trial. Kelly settled those cases out of court.

CNN is reporting, and MSNBC verifies March 8 is Kelly’s first court date, which is International Woman’s Day. Kelly faces three to seven years for each case he was charged for.
