Gaetz, Cohen

Matt Gaetz, a Republican representative from Florida, tweeted a threat to Michael Cohen the night before his public testimony before the House Oversight Committee.

The tweet stated, “Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…”

Originally, Cohen postponed his appearance before a variety of congressional committees. This was, in part, due to threats against his family from Donald J. Trump and his attorney Rudy Guiliani.

Gaetz is a Trump loyalist and he recently told the New York Times that he believes it is right that the criticms of investigations by congressional Republicans has aided in the president’s defense.

In a text message to Vox’s Alex Ward, Gaetz stated that he disagrees with this who believe he is witness tampering. He said, “I’m witness testing. We still are allowed to test the veracity and character of witnesses, I think.”
