The Arrowverse is about to get a little bit smaller, as a new report has made it official that Arrow is coming to an end on The CW. The series has been a staple of the network and helped to launch the DC Universe on television.

As the longest running DC series on television, it paved the way for other shows, such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. While it was originally renewed in January for a full season order, on March 6, a decision was made to cut the season down to just 10 episodes as fans say goodbye to Oliver Queen and the rest of the Arrow team.

According to Variety, the Executive Producers of the series, Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti, and Beth Schwartz issued a statement in which they explained that this was a hard decision for them to come to, but one they felt was in the best interest of the fans, the series, and the work they have all done over the years. The show’s EP’s said, “we’re heartened by the fact that ‘Arrow’ has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come.”

Following the news breaking in the media, the star of the series, Stephen Amell, took to Twitter in order to share his thoughts on Arrow coming to an end. Amell tweeted that, “Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever.” He also thanked all of his fans for all of their support over the years.

Since launching 2012, Arrow has spawned a number of shows, all within the Arrowverse, which means that the series’ legacy will live on long after the show finally comes to an end. It has also been suggested that with Arrow leaving The CW, this gives the upcoming Batwoman series, starring Ruby Rose, more of a chance at a pickup. And while fans may be sad to see the original DC series go, the opportunity for fresh stories and voices is one that is hard to pass up.

It will be sad to see Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, and Katie Cassidy, among other stars of the show, leaving The CW. However, there is hope that with the other shows in the Arrowverse still being on the network, fans could still see these characters make a return, even as a guest star. With Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash coming back for at least one more season at this point, there are still plenty of opportunities for some of the Arrow characters to cross over beyond the series finale.

While Arrow may be coming to an end soon, there is still the rest of Season 7 to get through, as well as the full 10 episode Season 8. This means that there are still more bad guys to deal with and stories to be told, as the series comes to its natural conclusion.
