The WWE announced on their website and Twitter that King Kong Bundy died on March 4, 2019. No cause of death was released. He was 61 years old.
Born in New Jersey, Bundy’s real name was Christopher Pallies. The 458 pounds, 6-foot-four wrestler had the nickname “walking condominium.”
One of the gimmicks of the wrestler was to have a referee count to five when pinning an opponent instead of three. This was to show that his challenger could not get up from the destruction he inflicted upon him.
Bundy will be remembered for his 1986 match against Hulk Hogan in 1986 for the WWE Title. The wrestler would lose to Hogan the steel cage match at Wrestlemania 2.
Bundy left WWE in the ’80s and returned in 1994 as part of “The Million Dollar Corporation.”
The wrestler also appeared on two episodes of the television show “Married… with Children.” There he played a wrestler on the first episode, and in the second his role was Irwin, Peggy Bundy’s uncle.
Bundy filed in 2016 a class action lawsuit against the WWE with several other wrestlers. The case claimed the organization did not properly care for wrestlers who suffered from head injuries. A U.S. district judge dismissed the case in 2018.
