Paul Shatswell, a principle in Pittsburg was shot by his wife at home during an altercation died on March 24, 2019. He was 45 years old.
Shatswell was shot at his home on March 16 located on Barrie Drive. Police state that Maria Vides, Shatwell’s 39-year-old wife shot him while being involved in a domestic altercation with her husband.
After the incident, Shatswell was transferred to a hospital and was placed immediately on life support. His wife was arrested and charged with inflicting bodily injury, using a firearm and committing a felony, and attempted murder.
Vides’ bail was placed at $2,070,000.
After Shatwell died, the case was transferred to the District Attorney’s Office. There would be an additional review, and Vides’ charges will now include murder.
On March 24, officials from the school district wrote on social media that Shatswell impacted the community of Pittsburg. They would always remember his love for his family, music, friends, education, and Pittsburg.
Shatswell is the father of eight children and was the principal at Pittsburg Adult Education Center. He was also formally a reserve deputy with the Sheriff’s office of Contra Costa County.
The homicide of Shatswell is Pittsburg’s first homicide of 2019.
