Taxes

April 15, 2019, is tax day. Democrats have been arguing for Donald Trump to release his taxes, which he still refuses to do.

Bernie Sanders, who only released his short form for 2014 the last time he ran for President, stated on MSNBC he would release his taxes by April 15.

Here are the major Democratic candidates who have released their taxes:

Kirsten Gillibrand from New York was the first person to release her taxes in March 2019 and posted them on her website. To be transparent, she published her taxes from 2007-2018.

Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts released her taxes, also posted on her website with a message stating:

Every year Elizabeth Warren has been in public service; it has been mandatory to disclose annually her assets and income. Warren has gone one step further and has released to the public every year she has worked in public service.

She then posted her returns from 2008-2018.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee released his taxes in March 2019. He said on “Fox & Friends” one of Trump’s favorite shows “It is now time for Trump to come clean with the American people and release his taxes.”

Inslee released taxes from 2007-2018, which covered his three Congress terms and six years as governor.

Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota released 12 years of taxes from 2006 to 2006, also on her website. She wrote on her website before posting her returns “Klobuchar believes that accountability and transparency are fundamental to governing properly.”

Kamala Harris released 15 years of her taxes on April 14, the day before tax day. The taxes documented how she and her husband attorney Douglas Emhoff reported over a million dollars in income and paid $700,000 in taxes.

Beto O’Rourke from Indiana and Cory Booker from New Jersey have pledged they would release their taxes but has not given an exact date.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who officially announced his Presidential run on April 14, also pledged to release his returns.

Bernie Sanders and his wife have recently become millionaire’s primarily due to royalties and book advances. Sanders pledged to release more returns during his presidential run in 2016 but failed to do so.

As of the morning of April 15, 2019, he has not released his returns as promised.
