The TBI stated right before 11:00 pm ET on April 7, Greenville police asked a driver to pull over who was speeding. The driver refused to stop, and the police chased him until he stopped, abandoned the car and ran to an apartment complex.

A female passenger who was in the car identified the man. Police went to his home in Eastgate arms. The police were given consent to search the premises.

Inside the apartment, they did not find the driver, but Bowers. TBI reported Bowers did not resign there. It is unclear why, but Bowers became combative, pulled out a gun, held it out to the police and fired.

The two officers were both hit and fired back, and Bowers was shot. TBI did not specify the injuries Bowers received or the two officers.
