On April 2, in his team’s game against the Lakers, Russell Westbrook dedicated his outstanding performance to one of his close friends, Nipsey Hussle. He earned the accomplishment of second NBA player in history to receive a triple-double. This simply means that Westbrook had 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 20 assists in one game. Throughout the entire NBA history, there was only one person with a better record, Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain with 22 points, 25 rebounds, and 21 assists.
Before the game, Russell Westbrook payed his respects to Hussle by listening to his music to help him get pumped up for the game.
In the final minutes of the game, Russell Westbrook received the last of his stats and shouted, ” That’s for Nipsey.” After the game, he met with an interviewer and explained that this game was not for him and that he did this for his friend who had passed away. The reason he dedicated this game to Hussle is because he wanted to highlight Nipsey Hussle’s legacy. Hussle’s legacy encouraged the community including Westbrook to be positive and beneficial towards each other. Russell made it clear that Hussle was somebody he looked up to, and he showed this by dedicating this high performance game to him.
