On the night of April 17, 2019, Kodak Black was arrested and charged with possession of both a weapon and marijuana. He and several other passengers were prohibited by the Customs Agents from crossing the border to Re-enter the United States from Canada.
One charge made against the Florida rapper was “Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree,” in regards to a nine millimeter pistol found in the car that Black was driving. No one in the car the rapper was driving in claimed the gun, however, the suspects in the car that trailed the rapper allegedly had a confession of their own. They were reportedly traveling with the Southern rapper, and the driver of the vehicle is said to have admitted to carrying two loaded handguns. A third gun and marijuana were later found in the trunk.
Black and all the other suspects were detained in the Niagara County Jail and placed on either a $40,000 bond or a $20,000 cash bond. Black was released after posting bail, and the courts have requested that he return back to court in May.
As a result of this unscheduled event, Black’s show in Boston was cancelled. He was scheduled to perform two shows in Boston’s ‘House of Blues,’ and when he did not arrive, fans were not pleased. After approximately an hour of waiting for the star of the show, fans were informed that Black would not be arriving and that the show would be postponed at a time to be determined later. When fans received the news, they began to riot. One person allegedly attacked a police officer and two people required medical assistance. There are also videos of upset fans booing and chanting “F*** Kodak.”
Fans were not the only ones disappointed by the news. It was said that Black’s own crew was unaware of the situation until quite some time after the fact. Though exact dates have not been made certain, House of Blues’ representative released a statement saying “With sincere apologies, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Kodak Black shows have been postponed. New dates will be announced as soon as possible.”
Black is not only receiving backlash from fans of his own about his lack of appearance to the show, but was also recently criticized by fans of the late Nispsey Hussle. Kodak expressed romantic intentions for Hussle’s former lover, Lauren London, on social media. He was met with responses from rappers T.I., The Game, and Justin Credible who vowed to cease playing Black’s music on their radio station. Kodak has since issued an apology to Ms. London.
