The smash hit Minions made their debut in 2015. Universal and Illumination had announced the name for the third part of the franchise.
The sequel will be a spinoff of “Despicable Me.” The film “Minions: The Rise of Gru” will arrive in theaters on July 3, 2020.
The movie’s title may suggest a storyline involving Gru who is a supervillain voiced by Steve Carell. Gru has been a movie staple since the franchise started.
Gru appeared in the film as a young boy who grew to be a significant part in the Minions machinations, which was the origin story for the Minions.
The plot of the latest movie and casting of the characters for the film have not been revealed.
The first Minions film opened on July 10, 2015, and grossed over $1.16 billion. The film became the first film in the franchise to gross over a billion dollars. “Despicable Me 3” released in 2017 also grossed over a billion.
Minions including the franchise of Despicable Me has become the highest-grossing film franchise that is animated ever to be released and has made over $3.7 billion around the world.
Several major films are set to drop around the 2020 July 4 holiday. This includes “Top Gun: Maverick” from Paramount Pictures, and “In The Heights” from Warner Brothers set to be released the week before Minions.
“Free Guy” which is from Disney-Fox and stars Ryan Reynolds is set to be released on July 3. The new Purge and Ghostbusters film are set to hit theaters on July 10.
