Dave Marshall, Former New York Mets, Dies 48 Hours After His Wife

MarshallDave Marshall, the former outfielder for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants, died on June 6, 2019. He was 76 years old.

On June 13, Tom Marcoux who worked with Marshall at the Long Beach Convention Center said he wife Carole was his entire world.

His wife had multiple sclerosis, and Marshall never left her side. Recently, Carol’s disease progressed, and she was inpatient at St. Mary Medical Center. It was decided that she would return home under the care of hospice.

Marshall himself suffered from health issues such as an injury he sustained last year in a golf cart accident, and a congenital heart condition.

Carol was sent home from the hospital and placed in hospice care. Her hospital bed was placed next to Marshall’s own hospital bed.

Carol died at home on June 4 peacefully. Marshal, was with her at the time fo her death.

Less than 48 hours after Carol died, Marshall also passed away on June 6 at 8:50 p.m.

Marshall married Carol on Nov. 12, 1994, and their union lasted for 25 years.

Charlie Beirne, the general manager at the Long Beach Convention Center, said that he thought a broken heart caused the death. He added that every workday, he would say that he had to go home to see his wife.

When Marshall was 20-years-old, he signed with the Angels. While there, he tore his right rotator cuff in his shoulder and the injury lasted his entire career.

He was signed with the San Francisco Giants for three seasons as their pinch-hitter and part-time outfielder. He also spent three seasons with the New York Mets and one season with the San Diego Padres.

Marshall played in 1,049 games over his career. He had 258 hits, 16 home runs, 114 runs batted in, 41 doubles and four triples.

In 1974 he retired from MLB and owned three restaurants in New York – Oasis, Rascal’s and Marshall’s.

In 1984 he moved to Southern California and oversaw the security detail for Joe Prevratil.

Marshall was also the chairperson of the Parking and Traffic Management Organization in California who partnered with the Aquarium of the Pacific, Convention Center and Convention and Visitors Bureau.
