Songwriter LaShawn Daniels Dies at 41

Reportedly, LaShawn Daniels, a New Jersey songwriter and producer is dead at 41.

Fans of liner notes may recognize Daniels’ name from some of their favorite songs. Many more may recognize his face from WE television shows, “Braxton Family Values” and “Tamar and Vince.” In the first TV show, fans watch Daniels and Braxton attempt to develop a sound for Braxton’s “Love and War” album. Daniels helped write and produce the title track, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2013 and won a Soul Train Award that same year.

He worked with producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins heavily and won his first Grammy in 2000 for his part on Destiny’s Child mega hit, “Say My Name.”

The cause of Daniels’ death is unknown. However, early reports suggest he was involved in a car accident.

He leaves behind April Daniels, his wife of 13 years, and their three sons, Omar, Tahshon, and Jett.

Since Daniels’ passing, multiple celebrities have spoken out on social media, mourning their loss and posting tributes to the songwriter and producer.

Singer Kehlani wrote: “We was supposed go crazy next week… Appreciate you for f*** in wit me OG… your legacy will never be forgotten! This s** crazy!”

Dawn Richard posted: “Yooooo I’m lost. Lashawn Daniels died?!!!! I’m stuck. This man took my vocal ability to new levels while working in Dirty Money. One of the funniest people with the best heart. A rare talent and a beautiful soul>”
