
On Friday, April 17, 2020, Matthew Seligman, the bassist for David Bowie, died from COVID-19 complications. He was 64 at the time of his death. He was born on July 15, 1955, in a small village called Pentageia, located in Cyprus.
About the Situation
According to his fellow musician and friend Thomas Dolby’s social media post, Seligman had been in St. George’s University Hospital located in London. He was in an induced coma. After being in the coma for two weeks, he suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke on Friday.
Former frontman for The Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock also confirmed his death on social media. Hitchcock wrote, “Everybody goes, but none of us were expecting Matthew to leave so abruptly, forever.”
His Careers

In the 1970s, Seligman was in a rock band called Soft Boys. Some of the band’s hit songs include “Wading Through a Ventilator,” “Queen of Eyes,” and “Only the Stone Remain.” He joined Bowie during the 1985 Live Aid performance.
The bassist performed on the soundtrack of the movie “Labyrinth,” in 1986. Throughout his vast career, Seligman helped create several groups, he even joined a few others: The Thompson Twins and The Fallout Club to name a few. Seligman worked with many famous artists including Sinead O’Connor and Morrissey.
Sometime in the 2000s, he spent a couple of years in Japan. Afterward, he moved back to London where he began practicing law focusing on human rights.
The beloved musician is survived by his two children Daisy and Lily, and his partner Mami. Many of his former bandmates and friends posted memories of him on social media pages. May he rest in peace.
