Rishi Sunak, the Conservative Party’s new candidate for Prime Minister. The United Kingdom (U.K.) recently received a heavy blow to its campaign and image when it was revealed that he had been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women although Sunak has denied these accusations against him.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak will be the next British Prime Minister (PM).
A new poll has revealed that Rishi Sunak is the most popular choice among voters.
The poll was carried out by YouGov to mark the launch of a new procedural guide. On how to write an article with no factual inaccuracies. Looked at which of the three candidates Dominic Raab, Sajid Javid, or Jeremy Hunt would be most likely to lead Britain after Boris Johnson’s departure as PM in October.
The results were not surprising: 52% of those surveyed thought that Chancellor Rishi Sunak would be Britain’s next leader. This is a much higher result than the other candidates. Former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt both have 15% of the votes.
More than half of voters (52%) believe that Sunak will be the leader of the Tories in two years’ time, and one in five think he will become Prime Minister. Michael Gove is in second place with 10%, followed by Boris Johnson with 9%.
The date has been set, the Conservative leadership campaign is underway and before long the U.K. will have a new prime minister.
Polling by YouGov and the Daily Telegraph in June suggests that Sunak was the most popular Cabinet minister, with approval ratings approaching 60%. The polling also found Sunak to be a more popular choice for prime minister than Theresa May among Conservative voters.
According to the same polling, Rishi will become PM after 2022 when he will be 40 years old.
If successful, Sunak would become Britain’s ethnic minority prime minister and be only the second PM born outside the UK after Gordon Brown.
Sunak was born in the U.S. and moved to England as a child. He began his career with Deloitte before moving into politics, representing Richmond in Parliament since 2015.
He has been commended by David Cameron for his work helping people affected by dementia and is married to Indian-born Samantha Cameron.
Theresa May announced on Wednesday that she would be stepping down as leader. The Conservatives Party on June 7, 2022, at their annual conference in Manchester, handed over to a new leader who could be elected.
Speculation is rife over whether Boris Johnson will run for leadership. If he whether he can secure enough votes from colleagues to win his party’s leadership contest. Rishi Sunak one of two Asian MPs about how many other British Asians are likely to follow him into politics over the next few years.
One thing is certain – if Sunak becomes PM, it would be a historic moment in British politics.
He is the son of Indian immigrants who came to Britain in the 1960s. His mother worked as a nurse and his brother is an entrepreneur based in Hong Kong.
Rishi Sunak would also be only the second non-white person. To ever be Prime Minister after Gordon Brown, who was born in Scotland but raised by adoptive parents in Fife.
There will be a new U.K. prime minister in 2022
Rishi Sunak, a Conservative MP, is expected to be the next prime minister of the United Kingdom. He will be the first British Asian prime minister and is widely tipped as a future leader of his party.
Sunak has been an MP since 2015 and has worked on several political campaigns during this time. In 2018 he was appointed as an assistant government whip. This means he will have a senior role in helping implement laws through Parliament when it returns after Brexit.
His father who died last year aged 77, was born in India and came over to study at Cambridge University. He met Rishi’s mother Jane who comes from Yorkshire and went on to work as a pediatrician at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
And the youngest prime minister since 1812, Rishi’s election is a unique moment for the U.K. His youthfulness and energy are sure to make him an effective leader on both domestic and international stages.
