Week One Events
The Vatu tribe won fire in the marooning challenge. Then, without knowing the next event, each tribe sent one player to compete for the rest of their supplies.
Q, Ozzy, and Coach accepted the challenge. Coach won the event when he was the first to grab they key, but People reports he may have “hurt his honorable reputation” in the process.
In the Vatu camp, Colby and Stephenie hit it off right away and teamed up with Kyle and Genevieve, who also seemed to click right away. Kyle and Q are bonding and Colby is warming up to Rizo after saying he was “annoying as hell.” They were entertaining too, as they held a fashion show featuring Genevieve’s pea coat, Angelina’s jacket, and the Q-skirt.
Kalo tribe’s Tiffany, Dee, and Kamilla seemed to click, but other members of the tribe are watching Dee closely.
Jenna is on Cila and quickly named Cirie as her prey once she failed to win her part in the first immunity challenge, losing valuable time and contributing to the loss. The target on her back seemed to grow as the tribal council drew closer.
Survivor Send Off
Jenna cast her vote for Cirie, however, the rest of the tribe cast their vote for Jenna, making the first ever winner of the show is the first person sent home in Season 50.
Jenna was not the only person to leave the island. During the immunity challenge, players were required to assist each other climb a steep wall while covered in mud. During the intense competition, Kyle injured his ankle.
Jeff Probst and Dr. Joe Rowles visited the Vatu camp for more test son Kyle’s ankle and it was determined he likely tore his Achilles’ tendon and despite his pleas, required Kyle to be removed from the competition. Teammates were tearful as Colby and Q lifted Kyle into the boat to leave the island.
A Few Behind-the Scenes Conversations
After the tribes were divided and Probst briefly mentioned to Colby he and Stephenie were once again tribed up together, Colby said, “Oh, we’re stacked up here,” looking at his tribemate, “Not just because of Steph, because everybody else. If you got chocolate, I’ll take it this time.”
Probst responded, “Oh my, what a flashback.” They shared a laugh. Colby said, “I won’t pass it up again.” To which Probst said, “I got the message, brother. We’ll go when I’m ready. If you’re an old school Survivor fan, that might mean something.” Everyone joined the laughter.
Before it was revealed if the fans voted for give contestants rice, Angelina said, “My mom voted, okay? Longtime fan. And she texted me. She’s like, ‘I’m so sorry honey, I voted no rice. I’m old school. You got to earn it. No rice.’ I was like, ‘Thanks, mom!’ So I am fully expecting nada.” She was correct in her expectation.
Coach did not step up to the spotlight for the Fight for Supplies. The Kalo tribe was concerned if the event was a puzzle or a physical. Coach made it clear he is not good at puzzles, repeatedly but was chosen anyway.
During the challenge audiences saw Ozzy lead throughout the contest and hurt his back attempting to dislodge the key. He was able to get the key on the ground and Coach dragged it over for the win.
Q and Ozzy spent the night on Exile Island and had to determine which person got the supplies but lost a vote and which one got an extra vote but no supplies. Ozzy convinced Q to take the supplies and give him his vote.
What was not seen by the audience is when Ozzy returned to Cila, he opened up to his tribe about Coach. Savannah said, “In a weird way, it’s a blessing that that happened, because you know, seriously, now you know who this man is.”
Ozzy agreed, “Because honestly, when he first said, after him and I had our moment, we met Q and then Coach was like, ‘All right, should it be us three to the end?’ We’re like, ‘Yeah, Coach, sure, let’s do this.”
Jenna reacted, “My God! He does that and then he steals the key?”
To which Ozzy replied, “I think maybe he’s regretting that now. But maybe not. Maybe not. I mean, its is just a pot and a flint.”
