On Friday, March 27, 2026, Iran fired ballistic missiles and drones at the Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia, wounding US troops. The air base is shared by Saudi and US forces outside Riyadh. In the attack, at least 12 US troops were wounded, according to the Associated Press and several are in serious condition.

Iran released Chinese satellite images of what they say are burning aircraft on the base. It says one of the tankers that refuels jets in the air was destroyed and three others were damaged.

Additionally, Israel says it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen toward Israel.

Iran has continued to target US troops on bases through the region since the war began at the end of February, in retaliation for U.S. attacks and seeking to push soldiers out of the area. The Pentagon has raised the casualty toll to 13 killed and over 300 injured.

Continued Strikes on Iran

Early Saturday, March 28, strikes were reported in Israel with a total of eight impact sites in Tel Aviv that included a university. One person was killed, and two were injured.

Iran also reports that strikes hit several industrial production facilities as the US and Israel continue their joint strikes on the Middle Eastern country.

Despite the internet blackout in Iran, residents have sent videos to Iranian diaspora website that show attacks hitting several steel and cement factories throughout the country.

Israel’s military said on Friday, it hit a heavy water reactor in Iran, which is believed to be a component of the nuclear enrichment program.

Iran has been retaliating against Israel and neighboring Gulf countries. Bahrain and the UAE report intercepting Iranian drones overnight. A worker was injured when struck by a drone in Oman.

On Saturday, Israel said its military intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. This is the first time during the Iranian conflict Israel has been fired upon by Yemen. Iranian-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Houthis control a large area of Yemen, including Sanaa and Western Yemen where the attacks were launched on vessels in the Red Sea during the Israel-Hamas war.

Houthi rebels attacked more than 100 merchant ships with missiles and drones from November 2023 through January 2025, upending shipping in the waterway on the Western Arabian Peninsula.

Israel Continues to Strike Lebanon

Overnight, Israel continues to strike Lebanon. Israel reports intensifying strikes and moving thousands of troops north across the border to fight Hezbollah militants.

Israeli officials plan to take territory at the Litani River, 10 to 20 miles north of the Israeli border.

Lebanese health officials report the invasion has displaced a fifth of the population and killed over 1,100 people. Thousands are fleeing to sleep in a soccer stadium in southern Beirut.

Israel has bombed highways, bridges, homes, and gas stations. Their military released video of a top commander surveying troops in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah released a video of its own showing a guided missile hitting a tank in Israel.

Iranian Missiles Destroyed

The Trump administration claims progress in the destruction of Iran’s missiles, calling it a war objective. Numbers have not yet been released.

An official for the US who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly speak, told NPR the US has been able to confirm the elimination of one-third of the Middle Eastern country’s missile capabilities. This assessment was first reported by Reuters.

The missile program for Iran has multiple elements: weapons factories, missile launchers, and missiles.

On Friday: Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We are going to basically destroy their ability to make missiles and drones in their factories. And we’re going to substantially – and I mean dramatically – reduce the number of missiles launchers so that they cannot hide behind these things to build a nuclear weapon and threaten the world.”

Rubio says the operation is ahead of schedule.
