It is the Resident Evil 30th anniversary! Executive producer of the Resident Evil series, Jun Takeuchi wrote to players across the globe, thanking “all the fans who have supported us along the way since the release of our first game on March 22, 1996 – exactly thirty years ago today.
“Last month, we released Resident Evil Requiem. With the return of Raccoon City, the place where it all began, we combined the two hearts of the series – horror and action – and packed them both into one title. And now, Requiem has reached over six million players around the world. Thank you all so much.”

What’s Next for Resident Evil?
Takeuchi says, “Our team will continue to work hard to bring all of you even more wonderful experiences in the future – and it would be an honour if you continued along with us on that journey. Thank you again for your support.”
Requiem Release
One of the biggest questions to come from Requiem is Leon’s wedding ring. Eurogamer asked director Koshi Nakanishi for more information, and he expertly dodged the answer. “The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to,’ and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.”
Capcom announced a new story expansion earlier this month that will “delve deeper into the world of Requiem.”
Resident Evil 30th Anniversary
Resident Evil was not the first survival-horror game, but it coined the term and defined the genre to become one of the most successful franchises.
Capcom has released a variety of games in the franchise, from numbered series, main series entries, and experimental spin-offs, all with varied success.
In honor of the Resident Evil 30th anniversary, Game Rant’s Dalton Cooper played through and ranked all the U.S. franchise releases. He says, “It was a mostly thrilling, extremely time-consuming ride with high highs and low lows, and after much deliberation, here is how I would rank every game in the franchise.”
The marathon focused on US releases only; therefore, “Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica” and “Resident Evil Re: Verse” are not included in the rankings.
