Train Derailment Triggers Chemical Release and Level 3 Hazmat Alert Dixie Highway Closed

Jefferson County, Kentucky – Emergency crews are on the scene of A train derailment in far southwestern Jefferson County, which has led to a chemical release and a HazMat declaration.

Reports of the derailment near the Ohio Valley Dragway on Catherine Station Road came in to MetroSafe just after 6 a.m. There were also reports of a strong chemical odor in the air.

Dixie Highway is shut down in both directions.

Pleasure Ridge Park firefighters are calling the derailment a Level 3 HazMat. It is the highest alert level for a hazardous material incident.

The chemical involved has not been identified.

Dixie Highway has been closed at the Salt River Bridge northbound and at Highway 44 southbound. Catherine Station Road has also been closed.

At this time there have been no evacuations because of the derailment.
