Gia Allemand, the former Bachelor star was pronounced dead on Wednesday at a hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana after she suffered “critical loss of brain and organ function” after an apparent suicide bid when the 29 year-old hung herself.
The reality television star had been found Monday night in an unconscious state by her boyfriend, NBA player Ryan Anderson. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment. On Wednesday, after the loss of her brain and organ functions, she was declared dead and taken off life support.
Gia Marie Allemand was born on December 20, 1983 she worked as an actress; a model, as well as in reality TV. She had been in Maxim and appeared as a cast member on the ABC reality programs, The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love and Bachelor Pad. Gia had been cast in another television series as well as being cast in a film about Gianni Russo. Gia would have played the actress Ava Gardner, Gianni Russo has personally chosen Gia for the role. He said, “Gia looks a lot like Ava, but it’s really the passion that she had that convinced me to cast her.”
After working on the two ABC reality shows, Gia worked on a television pilot called Ghost Trek. The series was a comedy/horror program based on a “paranormal reality show.” Allemand played the role of Shawna Leibowitz the girlfriend of Dr. Zeke Wallace. The pilot was finished in 2011 and the final product was called Ghost Trek: The Kinsey Report. The film was presented at many different horror conventions and won several awards.
With so much to look forward to, it seems unbelievable that the former Bachelor star Gia Allemand would apparently attempt suicide and die as a result.
Her family released a statement on Wednesday confirmed that her life support had been shut down and that she then died peacefully surrounded by her family, friends and Anderson. The statement also said that they would remember Gia as a loving and compassionate person.
When she was admitted to the New Orleans University Hospital in critical condition on Monday, her publicist told AP that she had checked in for a “serious emergency medical event.”
Allemand appeared on the 14th season of “The Bachelor,” where she finished third. Cast members of the Bachelor franchise turned to Twitter to show their shock and devastation.
Her boyfriend Ryan Anderson also turned to Twitter, he tweeted a Bible verse on Monday, when Gia had attempted suicide by hanging: “Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Luke 14:11.”
On Wednesday, Anderson issued a statement to People magazine that spoke of his gratitude for all the support received. He also said, “Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile.
In the statement Ryan said that he would always have his cherished memories of her and of her impact on his life.
The former Bachelor star’s death from an apparent suicide bid has touched all who knew and worked with Gia Allemand. None more so than her family and close friends. We would like to extend our sympathy to them all.
