‘The Hobbit’ Among Top Box Office Records

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Rising to the Top
As the numbers came in from the last week’s box office it was clear that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was taking the top spot once again. It is the second week that the second of the trilogy has been out and not only has it been top over the movies that have come out in theaters around the same time, but The Hobbit is also among the top of box office records for the year.

According to box office records The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is number 21 on the list currently bringing in $127.5 million. This beats out its competition for the week by $31.5 million with Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues being at number 70 among the 2013 records. Yikes!

Amongst the top 25 movies are The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Despicable Me 2, Gravity, Fast and Furious 6, The Great Gatsby, Identity Thief, and Grown Ups 2. The number one movie is currently Iron Man 3, grossing $409 million, though Superman (Man of Steel) and Thor (Thor: The Dark World) are not far behind.

These records coincide with last years top movies as The Avengers was number one, bringing in $623.3 million, and The Hunger Games, grossing $408 million, was number three.

Though in the 2012 box office records the first of the trilogy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey topped box office records at number five with $303 million in sales.

With nine days left in the year of 2013 the producers of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug are sure that the numbers will continue to rise as they anxiously await the final ranking for the year.

While the second of The Hobbit movies has some competition at the theaters it seems to be sweeping the numbers and leaving no room for competitors. As many of the movies with box office records are no longer showing in theaters The Hobbit has a chance among the other movies to rise steadily into the top records.

Thor: The Dark World and Hunger Games: Catching Fire are still showing in theaters with ranks at eleven and two, respectively. While The Hobbit may not beat out those two movies it is currently taking the lead over some of the others currently playing in theaters.

These movies include Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Frozen, Walking With Dinosaurs, American Hustle, Saving Mr. Banks, A Madea Christmas, and Dhoom 3.

Moviegoers and movie producers are excited to see where the ranks will end up as the year ends.

There are still some movies set to premier before New Year’s Eve. Six titles are set to premier on Christmas Day, including 47 Ronin, Grudge Match, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Also coming out that day is a documentary on Nelson Mandela titled Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Justin Bieber’s movie Believe.

In the year 2013 there have been many great movies released, as with any year. This year has seen many sequels that have taken box office records and a few movies that did not do so well. One thing moviegoers can always count on is that there will never be a lack of entertainment at the theater.

Viewers can still see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in theaters to help it reach among the top of the box office records. According to many reviews of the movie, viewers won’t be disappointed.
