The father of rapper Rich Homie Quan was recently gunned down in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The incident occurred on the morning of September 29, 2014.
The attack reportedly took place in Corey Lamar’s barbershop while he was at work. Anywhere between one and several men (further information has yet to be revealed) made their way into the shop and attempted to commit an armed robbery. The man or men proceeding to open fire while those inside were kept hostage, resulting in Lamar being shot a total of four times. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to rectify his injuries. He is reportedly still in critical condition, but is said to survive the attack. Quan is said to be at the hospital and waiting for his father to come out of surgery.
The 24-year-old has certainly been receiving his fair share of media attention in the past year. Just three weeks ago, he was involved in a physical altercation that took place during a Cincinnati boxing match. The disturbance reportedly began over the Georgia native’s accusations that the other man attempted to steal the rapper’s expensive chain. Quan retaliated against the man’s attempted theft by throwing several punches, after which the fight escalated into a full-out brawl. No arrests were made following the incident, although a video of the chaotic aftermath surfaced shortly following the event.
Three months before this event, Quan was accused of slapping a fan across the head during a concert that took place in Racine, Wisconsin. The altercation reportedly occurred when a crowd member attempted to pull himself on the stage using the rapper’s hand, at which time the rapper retaliated with the aforementioned slap. In the weeks following the event, the Hurt No More singer gave the defense that he initiated the physical display in order to prevent the man from robbing him. He claimed that the man attempted to steal his watch right off of his wrist, and therefore, he retaliated accordingly. He went on to say that the audience member in question was in no way a fan, because none of his fans would ever try to commit such an act, and therefore, he was acting in the same way that anybody would if another individual was attempting to rob them.
Quan has also been the subject of drug abuse concerns in the past few months, following a seizure that took place just a few days after he was reportedly engaging in extreme levels of sizzurp consumption. A source close to the rapper gave the statement that the BET Award nominee had been using the drug heavily prior to the incident, and had only stopped in order to be able to maintain focus on his upcoming video shoot. The source went on to detail how the codeine-based liquid can remain in a person’s system for up to four days following consumption, making it very likely that the rapper had suffered the infliction due to his almost week-long sizzurp binge in the days leading up to his shoot.
It remains to be seen what will come of the Atlanta shooting that left rapper Rich Homie Quan’s father hospitalized in critical condition after being gunned down. Neither he nor his representatives have yet given any statement on the matter.
