Newly single pop queen Mariah Carey reportedly wants close friend and rapper Nas to set her up with a new man, according to a source claiming to be close with the pair. An exclusive statement was given to US Weekly for its newest issue, which hit stores earlier this week.
In the wake of her impending divorce from Americas Got Talent host Nick Cannon, the 44-year-old is said to have sent Nas a text in which she asked for his assistance in meeting new men. The singer was reportedly not just hunting a soul mate, saying she didn’t mind if the partnership was short-lived as she just wanted to get out there and meet some new people following her breakup. The 41-year-old rapper, however, is said to not be so sure he wants to get involved. The New York native is said to be slightly nervous to introduce her to anyone, both because of the enormity of who she is and also because he shares a friendship with her soon-to-be ex-husband. The source says that Nas is simply unsure whether or not it would be inappropriate of disrespectful of him to help set up his friend’s ex-wife with a new man, and therefore he is hesitant to cross any possible boundaries in abiding by Carey’s wishes and hooking her up.
Rumors surrounding the possibility of Carey and Nas engaging in a romantic relationship themselves began to swirl back in 2013, when the two were seen in almost constant company with each other. On some occasions, the media portrayed them as getting too close to one another given that the We Belong Together singer was still married at the time. The two have reportedly been friends for many years, even collaborating for a track on Carey’s 2013 album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse. While the track got fair reception, the album itself was considered a flop. Cannon was asked how he felt regarding the rumors that the two were engaging in some sort of intimate relationship, at which time he blatantly shot down the rumors and said they did not bother him in the slightest. He went on to say that the trusted the two of them completely together, and it would be very hard for him to get jealous.
Cannon seems to be making his own moves in terms of moving on with his life post-split. He has reportedly found a wingman of his own in former American Idol judge Randy Jackson, whom he has been spotted out on the town with on several instances lately. The two were seen dining with an unidentified woman while in Beverly Hills near the end of September; an evening in which Jackson is said to have left first, leaving Cannon and the woman to spend the rest of the night together. Reports have stated that it seemed as though Cannon and the mystery woman were having an extremely good time, although there is no word as to whether they left together or separately themselves.
It remains to be seen whether or not Nas will comply by Mariah Carey’s wishes to set her up. For the time being, however, the rapper seems to be on the fence about the idea.
