During this year’s San Diego Comic Con, fans received plenty of hints as to what is to come this fall. Among the unveiling of new information for the coming year was the long-awaited trailer for NBC’s latest show, Heroes Reborn. September cannot come fast enough for Heroes fans. The groundbreaking series makes its prime time return with a brand new cast, plot, and spin on the original Heroes tale which created such a large fan base. With little information being leaked here and there, the trailer basically gives viewers a glimpse as to what to expect this coming fall for the series. Although fans still have two more months to wait, here is what people know so far:
The series, Heroes Reborn, will take place sometime after the ending of the original Heroes series. After Claire Bennet announced to the world that there are people with extraordinary abilities living amongst them, a backlash quickly followed. People with abilities soon became hunted down, imprisoned, killed, or went back into hiding. Among these hunters are two new characters, Joanne (Judith Shekoni) and Luke Collins (Zachary Levi). Even fan favorite Noah Bennet (Horn-Rimmed Glasses) retired from the life and put away his signature glasses.
Now called “EVOs” (Evolved Human Beings), those with abilities are back to being outcasts in a society that hates and fears them (X-Men?). Though hiding may have been their best solution to stay alive, a new technology developed by a leading software company will be able to identify those with special abilities. Leading this discovery is the new character, Erica (Rya Kihstedt), whose motivations seem to be driven purely by a desire for money.
Since the heroes can no longer hide, it is time that they make themselves known and fight back. New character Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski) heads out to find Noah Bennet, and eventually leads him to reclaim his HRG status quo. Considering that The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis) is set to make an appearance, it is clear that Noah will regain the memories of his former life to help form a resistance and help other EVOs stay safe.
Other noticeable parts of the trailer, which was debuted at Comic Con, are the familiar faces returning to the series and the new characters with brand-new abilities. Of the original cast, fans will get to see Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey), and Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg). Their roles in Heroes Reborn are still shrouded in mystery, but it appears that Micah will continue his fight as the leader of the resistance while helping others with special abilities find shelter.
As for the new faces, little is still known about their characters’ motivations. Tommy (Robbie Kay) is portrayed as a potential hero with the ability to teleport others to any location. He is seen in the trailer teleporting hunter Joanne away and almost teleporting away a bully at school. New character Miko Otomo (Kiki Suzekane) appears to be Heroes Reborn‘s version of Hiro Nakamura, as she is seen fighting with his trademark samurai sword. However, her ability is still unknown. Towards the end of the trailer, fans are also introduced to Malina (Danika Yarosh), who is seen manipulating the aurora borealis and stopping an eclipse. It is unclear what her powers are exactly, but her character seems to be trying to protect/stop others from awakening with new abilities.
Staying true to Heroes‘ fashion, Heroes Reborn is still shrouded in a lot of mystery. Creator Tim Kring made sure not to spoil too much or reveal more than necessary in the trailers, which were played during San Diego’s Comic Con. Adding to the mystery of the Heroes Reborn mythos, fans have to wait until its debut on September 24 to find out more.
