Mueller Grand Jury Extended 6 MonthsOn Jan. 4, Robert Mueller asked a federal judge for a six-month extension to keep the service of the grand jury he has been using in his investigation of the interference by Russia into the presidential election of 2016.

As reported by CNBC, Chief Judge of the U.S District Court in Washington, D.C., Judge Beryl Howell, agreed to extend the grand jury’s service. This is the same grand jury used by Mueller ever since he began his investigation in July 2017.

The rules of the district court state that the amount of time that a grand jury can serve cannot be more than 18 months unless the chief judge permits an extension.

The chief judge can extend the grand jury’s service for up to six months by determining that the extension is necessary and in the best interest of the general public.

According to CNN, the term of the grand jury in the Mueller investigation was due to expire on Sunday, January 6, which is why the extension was filed today.

Lisa Klem, who is Judge Howell’s assistant, stated that she could verify that grand jury 17-1 was extended for six months.

CNBC contacted Mueller’s spokesperson for a comment, however, they declined to respond.

In 2017, Mueller was appointed as special counsel.  Since the time of his appointment, he has obtained multiple guilty verdicts against those affiliated with Donald Trump.

The following is a list of some of the people, affiliated with Donald Trump, that have pleaded guilty.

Michael Cohen who was Trump’s personal lawyer, pleaded guilty for lying to Congress.

Lt. General Michael Flynn who was the White House’s first national security advisor was found guilty of making false statements to the government.

The President’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was found guilty of many different federal crimes.

Richard Gates, who was a Trump Campaign official, pled guilty for lying to the FBI and conspiracy.
