Miley Cyrus does everything a bad girl can do but somehow manages to keep a wholesome image, keeping parents from turning off and kids tuning in. Her latest bad girl move comes in the form of ink. That is right; the 19-year-old bride to be is flossing a new permanent tattoo on her left forearm. What does it say? It’s a passage from a speech by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt. It reads, “So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.” The point Cyrus is trying to make is that it’s “not the critic who counts.” To understand this, one would have to read the rest of the speech:
“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause, who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”
No, she did not put all of those words on her forearm. Nevertheless, one is well informed as to what the excerpt Cyrus chose means once it’s placed in its proper context.
When one looks upon this particular tattoo perhaps it does not entirely fit the bad girl persona Cyrus has tended to emulate.
It might be remembered that Cyrus is known to love pranks. While making an appearance in January of 2009, Cyrus was asked “what the best thing about having a big family was.” She replied, “The pranks.” However, pranks can be fun and not evidence of a bad girl character.
The pop star’s appreciation for sexy corsets, made known in an article on the website belfasttelegraph.co.uk, could potential be interpreted as raunchy or perhaps borderline bad girl.
However, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that In January of this year, when Cyrus was spotted celebrating Liam Hemsworth birthday at a Downtown L.A. Club, it should be noted that the singer-songwriter definitely hit bad girl status with a capital B. Apparently, Hemsworth friends rolled out a special genital chocolate cake, and when Cyrus saw the chocolate bundle of joy she took pictures posing as though she could hardly wait to taste the super-size cake. Does the Hannah Montana star loves big birthday cakes? Perhaps that’s a question better left up to Hemsworth to answer; but she was definitely bad on Hemsworth’s birthday.
In early June, Hollywood Life reported that Cyrus was reading 50 shades of grey. Upon seeing the singer engaged in the erotic novel, they published the incident with a headline which read “Miley loves the torture-themed love story.” Now while this episode might not qualify as bad girl, it does make you say, “um.”
Many of Cyrus’ fans are aware of her intermittent scandalous run ins with marijuana. Thus no one should be surprise to learn that Miley may from time to time enjoy a little pot. Now this is pure speculation on part of The Guardian Express; however, she was in fact seen last month meeting a buddy at a West Hollywood marijuana dispensary. Whether she likes it or not, the fact is that her friend emerged with a suspicious looking bag making her at the very least in bad company.
When you add it all up, there is certainly reason to question if Cyrus has that bad girl wild streak just waiting to burst out in public view. The Guardian Express will have to keep a steady eye on the teen idol and report the next time she slips from grace. In the meantime, she has earned a pass for the Roosevelt tattoo, especially since its message resonates with most of her fans.
