A GATHERING OF UNAMERICANS
By James Turnage
Hank Williams, Jr., performed at the Iowa State Fair Friday night, in front of a crowd of about 8500 people. (Why anyone would pay to hear his twangy grumbling, I’ll never know). He spoke to the audience and said the following; “We’ve got a Muslim President who hates farming, hates the military, hates the USA, and we hate him.”
There were cheers from the crowd. When he previously made inappropriate and disrespectful comments about the man who is his President, like it or not, his musical introduction was removed from Monday Night Football. I cheered.
How many of those who reside in our shores are still extreme racists and bigots? Throughout my life, I had hoped ignorance and just plain stupidity were disappearing from our society. I was wrong. If anything has changed I believe we have become a less educated, less tolerant country. I remember Bush II said he would make us a “kinder and gentler nation”. Just the opposite has happened. We have become a cruel and uncaring society. We are less informed and make judgment more quickly than any other nation on earth.
What I don’t understand above all else is why we even listen to people like him, or Limbaugh, Palin, Bachmann, and the entire FOX noise story tellers. And why does the media report anything these un-Americans say or do. They don’t matter. They all had their ten minutes of fame, and they blew it.
Talentless, uneducated, ill-informed, ignorant, and prejudiced people need to be ignored, not encouraged. I don’t like Romney, he knows nothing about my situation, or those of any person who worked hard for 47 years to just make ends meet. At least he is an intelligent man. And even though I don’t agree with him on principle, at least he has them. It seems as though he has an army of supporters who are below his standards. We need to keep intelligent people in the White House.
