In a joint statement, the couple announced their decision to divorce saying: “We have enjoyed more than a decade of a very loving, loyal and happy relationship, but after much soul searching, we have decided to end our marriage… We are committed to staying friends and dance partners. We have immense respect for each other as people and performers,” they told “People” magazine.
Earlier this month Trebunskaya, 31, and her partner, singer Drew Lachey, were eliminated from season 15 of the All-Stars edition of the ABC reality ballroom dancing show.
Roberts, 38, competed on seven seasons of Dancing, most famously paired with Marie Osmond and Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills.
Roberts most recently appeared on the ninth season of DWTS, and his best result overall was third place with Osmond in season five. He still appears occasionally on the show to perform with fellow pros and has been choreographing ballroom routines on So You Think You can Dance.
The Russian-born redhead’s best finish was in season 10 when she and Evan Lysacek came in second.
The couple competed together for six years before Jonathan retired from professional ballroom dancing in 2006.
At one stage they were ranked sixth in the U.S. and 24th in the world.
The fact that their marriage is over has come as quite a surprise.
Together they operate a dance studio, You Can Dance Studio, in Hermosa Beach, California.
