Paris Fashion Week, takes me back to the viewing of ‘The Devil Wears Prada, and I think I will associate the two for some time.
I was in the Fashion Industry many decades ago, and I understand that it’s as catty now as it ever was. But aside from the Anorexia, Bulimia, drug addictions and tiny waist, it’s the highlight of the year, for many an artist, that strives to make it to this particular catwalk.
Pictured left are a couple of pieces from the Lanvin collection, spouting some Goth make up, along side a couple of very feminine pieces. A great contrast I thought.
H&M had a stand out collection. Some of their pieces enable many non-model figures to look amazing. Whereas, I have found many of the other labels are so tailored that in one way or another, that they ‘still’ don’t suit the average figure of a size 14-16, NZ sizing that is folks. H&M came to the Euro market, collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004. In later years they included, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Madonna, Roberto Cavalli, Comme des Garçons, Matthew Williamson, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Versace, Marni and David Beckham. Oh, shoes, clothes, handbags, jewelery- I’m in heaven.
I know the industry has cleaned itself up in recent years, but you can’t tell me it’s completely clean. Until they bring in drug testing for models, and remove the champagne behind the scenes, it will never be clean.
Paris Fashion Week is about clothes, sizing and extreme dieting, which offers up Joan Rivers comments about Adele at the Oscar’s. Boy, has she ever got a nerve. At least Adele, is all natural, and long may it stay that way. Whereas Joan Rivers, must have at least the same amount of plastic on her face, in percentage, as her age. I mean, come on Joan, you’re old, you’re wrinkly, get over it! Anyway, moving on!
Paris Fashion Week 2013, after going through the many hours of research and looking at what was on offer this season. I have to say I was kind of disappointed. There is nothing that really stands out for me. The Givenchy piece in my collage, was unusual, and bold. Something you would need strong features to carry off though. But apart from that piece, nothing has really popped for me. You know, that one piece that makes you go, “Oh wow- that’s so cool, or so amazing. Nothing that would make me want to grab the clothes off the model, strip on the catwalk and say ‘Give it to me NOW!’ Not that there are many of us that would fit those coat hanger clothes anyway.
It was the accessories that got my attention more so than the clothes, the Dries Van Noten’s Glittering Ear Cuffs, pictured left, were pretty cool and of course Olympia Le tan’s Storybook clutches, pictured above, were amazing. I just love those, they never get old.
And of course, Gucci. The new sustainable handbags were amazing, but its Gucci, what else would you expect.
Check out the collage for a couple of my favourites. See if you can pick the designers.
The usual suspects were on site. Kim Kardashian wearing, you guessed it- black and Kanye West. Paul McCartney also in the front row being the ever supportive father. Lets see, who else. Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba fight it out in the fashion stakes. I think we’re still deciding who won.
But, for now, we will wait and see what the other updates bring us. There are still some collections to be shown.
