Chicago officer sustained gunshot wound while responded to burglary callPreliminary Statement on Officer Shot in the 1200 Block of West 72nd Pl

CHICAGO – On May 6, 2013, at approximately 9:00 pm, Englewood (007th) District officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of West 72ndPl. The officers proceeded to the second floor landing of the building where they were confronted by a vicious dog. The dog then charged the officers, as a result of this action; an officer discharged his weapon striking the dog. During the incident one of the officers sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The matter remains under investigation and all further inquiries should be directed to the Independent Police Review Authority at 312-446-3298.
