A trailer became unhitched from a tractor-trailer rig, struck a minivan and killed seven near Syracuse, New York.
The tragic accident happened in Truxton, twenty five miles outside of Syracuse. Three adults and four children riding in the minivan were killed. And eighth man survived, and was transported to the hospital.
The tractor-trailer was hauling crushed cars for a salvage company. The two men in the rig were unharmed.
The accident happened about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Why the trailer detached from the truck is under investigation. And the cause of death will be determined by autopsies performed Thursday and Friday.
Although there were thunderstorms in the area, weather is not believed to have been a factor.
