Seattle Woman Navenna Shine Living on Sunshine and Water

In Seattle, Washington, Navenna Shine is living on only sunshine and water. She is attempting to live without eating food for six months, and calls her experiment “Living on Light.”

Shine, 65, wants to demonstrate that humans don’t need food to survive.

According to Shine, “This is a paradigm for living in which we as human beings do not have to ingest any kind of food whatsoever into our stomachs in order to thrive.”

Shine points to the example of  an obscure group of yogis called The Breatharians, who for thousands of years have claimed they have the ability to live on light alone. Her experiment is an attempt to prove that sunlight and water contain enough nutrients on their own to sustain a human’s life.

On her website, Shine wrote: “At ‘Living On Light’ we propose that we have a nutritional source already embedded within our body/mind/spiritual systems that can give us exactly what we need to be healthy and well. Since we do not yet know exactly what that source is I am symbolically calling it Light.”

This Thursday, Shine marked the milestone of having lived for 33 days without eating any food. She has already lost  more than 20 pounds.

As a way to prove that  she has been sticking to the odd starvation diet, Shine has placed  cameras throughout her house to record. In the next few weeks, she also plans to also begin live-streaming her experience on the Internet.

In order to verify that she is indeed sticking to the diet, Shine has placed several cameras throughout her house to keep a record of the experiment.  She also hopes to begin using the cameras within the next few weeks.

Just how long can someone live without eating?

People require water much more than they need food. If a human doesn’t drink water for 8-14 days, that would be pushing the limits as to how long someone can survive without water.

However, a person can survive without food for much longer, up to 7-8 weeks without food depending on conditions like weight, temperature and exertion.

One famous example of a person who went on a hunger strike was Mahatma Gandhi, the famous nonviolent campaigner for India’s independence, who at the age of 74 survived 21 days of total starvation while only allowing himself sips of water.

Also, in a 1997 article in theBritish Medical Journal, Michael Peel, senior medical examiner at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, cited studies reporting survivals of other hunger strikers for 28, 36, 38 and 40 days.

Prisoners in Northern Ireland went on hunger strike in 1981. The prisoners  joined the protest in stages., and ten of them finally died from starvation. The numbers of days the ten who died lasted were ….. 46 59 60 61 61 61 62 66 71 73.

If Shine lasts for six months without any food, she would easily beat these records, as that would be approximately 180 days, depending on the months involved.

In the song “Truckin'” by the musical group the Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh sings about “living on vitamin C and cocaine.”

Navenna Shine is trying to accomplish something similar with her experiment, but without the aid of drugs.

Good luck with that.

Please notice that this article is is dire need of good editing!!! The writer, or so-called “journalist” wrote 2 paragraphs with almost identical thought (the one about “verify” and proof of diet w/ cameras etc). To Dr J’s reply: world hunger can be solved with a 6″ piece of latex!

She is totally going to die.

Yes, I agree it’s ridiculous–but, she claims that she can do it. We’ll see, I usppose….

Does she have chlorophyll and a taproot? This is ridiculous. If this were true the we can end the SNAP (food stamp) program and world hunger can be solved with clean water and a beach towel.
