city-of-avellino-italyA coach crashed near Avellino, Italy Sunday.  There were approximately 40 people on board the bus when it veered downhill, crashing into several vehicles.  At least 24 are dead.

The coach was returning to Naples when the accident occurred.

Television footage depicted bodies in shrouds alongside the road.

“I cannot yet confirm the number of victims – we are still pulling people from the vehicle,” a police spokesman told the French news agency AFP.

Witnesses said the vehicle crashed through a guardrail on a ‘flyover,’ and plunged into deep undergrowth, which is hindering recovery efforts.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Avellino, Salerno and Nola.
