Nike pulled this Panthers shirt after realizing they mistakenly displayed South Carolina instead of North.

According to Nike, the Carolina Panthers play in South Carolina, at least that’s what they printed on a recent t-shirt. After realizing the mistake an apology was issued by Nike apologizing for showing the wrong state in the background of a Panther shirt.

The mix-up is humorous in that Nike knows which state the Panthers play in, just not what it looks like. The letters “NC” are part of the shirt’s design, however the state pictured is clearly South Carolina.

Geography skills must not required at Nike, who also apparently does not own any maps.

Pulled down almost immediately from the store’s website, Nike’s botched Panther shirt was only purchased by one fan for $32 before the company could correct the error. The fan did receive his shirt in the mail, giving him perhaps the ultimate collector’s item.

The Carolina Panthers do enjoy fan support from both Carolinas in nearly equal amounts, however the team has always played in the northern neighbor of the state erroneously depicted on Nike’s shirt.

Given that Nike produces all the jerseys as well as the officially licensed merchandise for the NFL, it is surprising that they could screw up the state a team plays for.

Perhaps the designer decided to “just do it” instead of double checking his work.
