On Sunday night’s MTV VMA event, besides Miley Cyrus revealing too much on-stage it was also revealed that the Glee gang are filming that episode. The Cory Monteith tributary third episode on the Fox program is being done this week. Cue a lot of stress for the guys and gals who will have to face his too recent death all over again. The stress levels will be high, especially the late actor’s real life girlfriend Lea Michele.
The word so far is that the actors are having a difficult time of it. But information has been trickling in about who from Cory Monteith character Finn Hudson’s past will be making appearances. Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr, Mark Salling, Jayma Mays, Mike O’Malley, Dot Jones and Romy Rosemont are set to be back for the tribute episode.
Of course on top of the old faces returning there is also the news that Demi Lovato is joining the cast as a “gay love interest.” Demi herself is thrilled to be joining the cast and her love interest in the show Naya Rivera, aka Santana Lopez in Glee, is also very excited at the news.
Word is out that Amber Riley will be belting out some songs for the episode as well as Lea Michele. Nothing has been heard from Lea, but Amber was on Twitter tweeting about how difficult it has been. Darren Criss aka Blaine Anderson, has also been talking about the upcoming episode and season five in general. Darren has said that Sue Sylvester, played by Jane Lynch, is going to be back along with her ongoing plot to destroy the glee club.
About the Cory Monteith/Finn Hudson segment that they are working on, Darren said that it was something the fans needed and although it was tough on the actors it needed to be done.
It turns out that even though Rachel/Lea will be singing in the episode, she won’t be an active participant until the final act. While this will highlight the poignancy of the show, that may not be the only reason behind saving Lea Michele until the last minute.
The show is about Finn Hudson and addressing his, and Cory’s death. Focusing on Finn/Cory will make sure fans know that this is a sincere memorial and tribute to the young actor who died under such tragic circumstances. Leaving Lea until the final act may just be the producers way of alleviating the personal stress and grief of the 26 year-old actress.
Lea Michele has proven that she is a professional with her decision to carry on with the Fox series after Cory’s death. It is most likely a show of respect for her bravery and an opportunity to keep her personal stress to a minimum.
As more small details become known about the painful episode that the Glee cast and crew are filming this week we await the airing of it with a certain amount of trepidation. The Cory Monteith episode will have the dubious distinction of being simultaneously a high and low point of the season. Make sure you are fully stocked up with tissues when you finally get to see it.
