GTA 5 Set to Earn Its Second Billion This October

GTA 5 from Rockstar Games is set to make its second billion dollars. It made its first billion in just 3 days. The second billion will likely come both from continued sales of this super HOT video game, but also a large part of it will come from Grand Theft Auto Online, which people who purchased GTA 5 can begin to access starting on October 1, 2013.

Does the single-player campaign need to be completed first?

This question came from a player who Tweeted the company on September 26. The person wondered if it was necessary to beat the single-player campaign in GTA 5 before the online multi-player version would be unlocked.

The online game, according to a Rockstar company spokesman, does not have to be “unlocked” at all, nor does the single player campaign need to be beaten, in order to play the multi-player Grand Theft Auto Online game beginning on October 1.

Well, that is, if by “unlocked” you’re referring to the definition that you must accomplish certain goals in GTA 5 in order to then unlock access to Grand Theft Auto Online — though, the online version does need to be unlocked in a different way.

The response to the Tweet was:

You do not need to complete the Story Mode to access GTA Online

Playing Grand Theft Auto Online is free for anyone who has purchased GTA 5. It’s included in every copy of GTA 5, though it can’t be accessed until the start of next month.

What’s going to happen is that a small patch will become available to everyone who has purchased GTA 5, and it will be the key to unlock Grand Theft Auto Online so that you can then have access to its multi-player section. There, you can play and/or participate in various activities the game allows with 16 of your friends, or people around the world who own the game, whether it’s the Xbox 360 version or the one for Playstation 3.

Grand Theft Auto Online will be heavily supported by its development team. The team will release content release and updates often, as well as deal with any complaints or other issues. During the first few weeks, they will also make available downloadable content for free.

So, how is it that, if everything about playing Grand Theft Auto Online is free, Rockstar Games can make its second billion?

Take-Two Interactive are really the people behind Rockstar Games. While you can play Grand Theft Auto Online for free, once you’ve purchased GTA 5, to do certain things or buy certain things you will need to spend some of that hard-earned cash you’ve gained through playing the game.

Or, if you’d rather not spend hours and hours, if not longer, getting the cash through playing the game, there is an alternative — you can buy GTA $ with real money.

That’s what’s gotten Take-Two investors all excited about the online version of this extremely popular game.

Rockstar Games announced that:

…if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$. You will have the option to purchase GTA$ through the in-game Store.

While probably most people will like to earn their GTA$ through playing the game, there is a highly lucrative industry involving paying real money to players who happen to have some rare game item you want, without trying to earn it on your own.

Take-Two and Rockstar Games appears to want to cut out these middlemen, who are often from countries such as India. You can purchase GTA$ through, as the statement says, the game’s online store.

As long as the game remains popular, Grand Theft Auto Online will have a large enough percentage of its players who will rather buy the GTA$ instead of playing to earn them to make Take-Two its second billion dollars.

Okay all you who have already posted, the events of gta online take place before the events of the main story, so you will not have any of the money you have already earned, it’s on the gta website you speculative morons. 2nd the online service is supposed to drop at midnight est but so is a lot of content that’s supposed to be released at midnight on xbox, I’ll expect it sometime tomorrow like an hour before it becomes the 2nd of Oct.
