Food Stamps Cut While Government Officials Eat Like Kings!

Food stamps cut means less food for the hungry, while our government officials eat like kings!

A woman from New Jersey, age 55, raised a good point regarding the latest issue of food stamps cut. She said, “Keep me anonymous in this report, because I am already poor and find it very embarrassing what I am about to say. I have a weekly income of $350, I cannot find a better job, am a single parent, and have had to forgo our home and go and live with relatives like sardines in a can! I tried to apply for food stamps and qualified to receive $16 a month for my child and me to survive-on. And now people stand to face food stamps cut while government officials eat like kings! I wonder,” she said, “if Mr. U.S. President and every one of his officials, who are in Office thanks to we, the people, are going to cut back on their and their children’s food bill to help the rest of us eat a decent meal!”

Chilling testimony, to say the least, and great argument when we consider the middle-class went sliced in half, and only the rich and the poor exist today. What is even more frightening is when, from a Federal birds-eye view, we look at the wide-range of persons and households already drowning in the trenches of poverty, with too little to eat, subject to suffer more food stamps cut, and no jobs to be had!

Currently, 83% of families are below the official poverty line ($23,500 for a family of four and $11,500 for an individual). More than 75 percent of households receiving food stamps involves a child, an elderly person, or someone with a disability. And the U.S. unemployment rate is at 7.2 percent and unchanged since September 2013.

Despicably, to this Nation, an additional 21 million people have had to partake of SNAP since 2008 due to the epic collapse in jobs and towering housing crash that preceded, while our government officials and the wealthy all around us eat like kings!

That this nation’s leaders are inflicting hunger on its people is an accurate statement, when now reports show that the recession has dumped millions more people, (and no money), into poverty. Experts say, “The food stamp cuts will spread hunger in the U.S., undermine public health, and tax food banks around the country,” food banks, which already are famished of goods and “screaming for help” with the persistent rise in poverty.

If you are facing these types of harsh circumstances, no one has to tell you that you are living in poverty and suffering. To help you better understand the level of poverty within which you, with or without children, abide-in, go here to review the poverty thresholds captured by the U.S. Census Bureau.

As explained there briefly:

Ratio of income to poverty

People and families are classified as being in poverty if their income is less than their poverty threshold. If their income is less than half their poverty threshold, they are below 50% of poverty; less than the threshold itself, they are in poverty (below 100% of poverty); less than 1.25 times the threshold, below 125% of poverty, and so on. The greater the ratio of income to poverty, the more people fall under the category, because higher ratios include more people with higher incomes.

“Below 100% of poverty” is the same as “in poverty.”
“Below 200% of poverty” includes all those described as “in poverty” under the official definition, plus some people who have income above poverty but less than 2 times their poverty threshold.”

If $16, to feed two people, is hardly enough for a one-day’s meal, imagine trying to feed those two people on $15 per month!

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

ABC News reported that two Walmart stores had to call the police because a rush of shoppers, with EBT cards in their possession, had come in and completely wiped clean all of the food shelves!  This, of course, allegedly had to do with the “Electronic Benefits Transfer system” and that it “went down because a back-up generator failed at 11 a.m. EST Saturday during a regularly-scheduled test,” as claimed Xerox, the vendor for the EBT system.

Nevertheless, before anyone outside of the shoppers found out that the EBT system had failed, hundreds of shoppers, with no limit spending right then, dragged out as many as ten carts each filled with food, some of whom gained more than “$700 worth of groceries,” said a Walmart employee, in those carts that quickly rolled out of view.

That these shoppers looted Walmart, in broad daylight and without incident, is a given! That Walmart now is likely to find itself stuck with the Food Stamp shopping spree, is another possibility. But, if this amazing event didn’t send a clear message to all the king-pimps in Washington: that food stamps cut while government officials eat like kings isn’t justice! Then this sort of shenanigans not only will take place as desperate measures to dissipate the unwarranted food stamps cut, but also prove deserving of the government to have their Electronic Benefits Transfer system fail them the same way that their health-care website failed them: remember that?

The reported $11 cut in monthly food stamp allocation is not correct. It is $33/mo ($142 to $109) less. June 2013 it was ~$184/mo. Admittedly I’ve yet to get data from SNAP that is consistent with the what they say. They seem to behave very erratically towards individuals.
Incidentally the USDA thrifty food budget for one was ~$183/mo.
