Ronaldo Takes Portugal to FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil

Portugal qualify for 2014 FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil

A superb second half  hat-trick by Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portuguese national side trounced Sweden 3-2 on the day and 4-2 on aggregate, enough for Portugal to qualify for the 2014 Football World Cup in Brazil.

The fast paced game, besides being a huge qualifier for the world cup, was a clash between two titans of world football today. It was a showcase of two of the greatest exponents of the beautiful game: Ronaldo, from Portugal and Ibrahimovic from Sweden.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 50th minute of the second half. Ibrahimovic not only tied the score but got one more to lead the Swedish side 2-1. But after his heroics it was all Ronaldo. He equalized the game in the 77th minute and then a mere two minutes after scored the final goal of the match. With this goal he not only completed a hat-trick but also sealed the fate of Sweden’s football team for good. It was definitely the last chance for Ibrahimovic to play in a world cup but Ronaldo’s brilliance has denied him that honor.

It was because of the maverick Ronaldo that FIFA had to extend the deadline for the World Player of the Year Award. Which by the way is confirmed that the 28 years old will not travel to Zürich to receive the coveted prize even if he wins it, because of his open differences with the Chief Executive of FIFA Sepp Blatter.

Ronaldo was born in a poor family in the year 1985. He had no toys to play with and shared a small room with his three elder siblings. That was then. Ever since he was spotted by Sir Alex Ferguson to play for Manchester United, Ronaldo’s life is no less than a fairy tale. In 2009 Ronaldo became the most expensive footballer in the history of the sport upon his move from Manchester United to Real Madrid. This transfer was worth $ 131.6 million and his buy-out clause under the terms of contract with Real Madrid is estimated at one billion Euros. In addition he earns record sums of money from his sponsors the most famous of them being Nike. His net worth is estimated to be a whopping $160 million.

Though, the media portrays him as arrogant and a snob, according to the testimony of his team mates and the accompanying staff, it is a wrong assessment of Ronaldo. He is also a great philanthropist in addition to being a great player. He has donated millions for the education and health  of the poor children of the world. He has also built a hospital for cancer patients in the loving memory of his mother who lost her life to this malignant disease.

Ronaldo also has it to his credit that he has dated some of the most beautiful celebrities, including Alice Goodwin, Gemma Atkinson and presently Irina Shayk. He is also the proud father of a son.

Ronaldo has won every award that the football world has to offer. He is the most capped player for Portugal. Ronaldo has two international hat tricks to his credit plus 26 playing for Manchester United and Real Madrid. Now the FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil eagerly awaits to see Ronaldo play his spell bindibg brand of football.
