Lindsay Lohan is reportedly looking into suing the creators of GTA V. She claims that they have used her likeness. There are currently no details over which character she is claiming to be her likeness, but suspicions lie within the missions in the game, that involves the fake celebrities like Poppy Mitchell.
At the moment, Lohan has just contacted her lawyers. This does not mean that any action will be taken. Her lawyers will need to decide whether there are any grounds to sue Rockstar Games for the celebrity missions.
One of the paparazzi missions involves the player helping a celebrity escape from those who are taking photos of her. The second involves the player trying to take a photo of a celebrity while she is staying at the Chateau Marmont hotel. The two missions host a number of washed-up celebrities, involving people of similar status to Lohan and countless other actors, actresses, singers and models. There are a few blonde bombshells within the game, but none have been taken from the Mean Girls look.
There are plenty of blonde women around. The one on the front cover of GTA V, who holds a cell phone and poses for the camera, is taken from the likeness of Shelby Welinder. Welinder is a model and approved her likeness to be used by the exciting and popular car game.
The real influence — but not grounds for a lawsuit against the GTA V creators — is the hotel used in the second mission, which was one that Lohan used to live at. There is also the description of a character, who also describes a number of child actors and young stars. Poppy Mitchell, the character in the photo opportunity mission, is a family-friendly star with a wild side. However, she appeared in the previous Grand Theft Auto, so it is doubtful that she is the reason for the possible lawsuit.
Considering GTA V made $1 billion within the first three days of its release, cynics could suggest that Lohan is after some extra money. Why make it the good old-fashioned way when you can sue a multi-billion corporation?
It would make a change for the Freaky Friday star to be on the claimant side of a lawsuit. Her last few appearances have been spent on the defense, after a string of drunk-driving and theft arrests. Her last arrest was just November 29, last year, when she apparently punched a woman outside of a club.
There has been no word about how Rockstar Games will respond to any possible lawsuit. At the moment, there is no need since Lohan is just looking into suing the creators of Grand Theft Auto V. There does not seem to be any clear ground, as the likeness is simply within her situation of being a child star turned wild. That has happened to many others, with Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus high up on the list. This is completely different to another recent claim by star, Ellen Page, who claimed Sony had used her likeness without permission.
